Kentucky women’s tennis had a dominant performance on the road at Kansas State, winning both the singles and doubles brackets for a 4-0 sweep.
The Wildcats would take two out of three doubles wins, starting with the team of Elizabeth Stevens and Ellie Eades having a strong victory, winning 6-2, and Asuncion Jadue and Julia Zhu taking the win in third match 6-3. After a back-and-forth set, the team of Zoe Hammond and Tess Bucher would fall just short of a victory, going down 6-4 against Maralgoo Chogsomjav and Charlotte Keitel.
Kentucky came into the singles matches commanding a 1-0 lead after taking the victory in the doubles matches 2-1, led by the dominating freshman and sophomore duo of Jadue and Zhu, as well as the star player for the team so far this year, Stevens.
Stevens would keep rolling going into her singles match, having an impressive performance against Chogsomjav, taking the win 6-3, 6-4 in two sets. With this win, Stevens moves to 12-1 on the season. Zhu would also continue her streak of dominance, taking the win over Maria Santos, winning in two sets 6-4, 6-3.
Hammond would bounce back in a big way after suffering a close loss in her doubles match, winning a back-and-forth contest against one her doubles opponent Keitel. They would take the match through all three sets with Hammond taking the win 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, securing the win for the Wildcats.
Eades would look to go two for two on the day, but would be stopped mid-match, only completing the first set before Hammond ripped the win.
Kentucky ended the day beating the Kansas State Wildcats 4-0 in a clean sweep, having a great bounce-back win after a rough loss to Wichita State on Friday. With this win, it extended its record to 6-2 on the season.
Kentucky will be back in action at home on Feb. 22 to take on SEC rivals, the Tennessee Volunteers. The match will take place at 1 p.m. ET at the Hilary J. Boone Complex.
