University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto sent a message to the campus community addressing “potential impacts” of new executive orders signed by President Donald Trump.
The message was sent Friday, Jan. 24, where concerns about their impact on higher education was emphasized and how UK is responding to these changes.
“We are working quickly to monitor these orders and actions as they occur and assess and analyze their potential impacts on the work we do,” Capilouto said.
According to the message, UK has a team of experts and colleagues on campus working on understanding any “policy changes and potential impacts to the institution.”
Capilouto said he has a team reporting regularly to his cabinet with senior leaders reporting for every major unit such as the colleges, schools and departments on campus.
If changes or modifications need to occur, they will “quickly communicate those as appropriate,” Capilouto said.
He told students to direct any questions they may have to employees, supervisors, directors, deans, unit administrators, appropriate university leaders and the Office for Student Success.
If there are legal questions, students should direct them to the General Counsel.
“As an institution . . . we will work quickly and compassionately to understand the changes, if and how they impact us and how we intend to move forward in accordance with the law and in support of our mission and values as Kentucky’s university,” Capilouto said.
