The University of Kentucky College of Communication and Information formally accepted a $2.5 million donation for renovations on UK’s Pence Hall, according to UKNow.
Philanthropist and award-winning journalist Misdee Wrigley Miller and her husband, James Miller, made the donation to the college on Dec. 3 during a board of trustees meeting.
Owner and CEO of Wrigley Media Group and LEX Studios, Wrigley Miller, said her goal in supporting UK’s College of Communication and Information was “to expand and enrich the educational opportunities offered in Kentucky,” according to UKNow.
The donation will go toward the current renovation and expansion of Pence Hall, the future building for UK’s College of Communication and Information.
“This transformative project will enhance educational opportunities, strengthen Kentucky’s media workforce and foster real-world experiences for our students,” UK said in an Instagram post announcing the donation.
The $32 million renovation and expansion of Pence Hall has been active since the spring of 2024, with plans to complete the project by summer 2025.
UK President Eli Capilouto said he was deeply grateful for the donation.
“These innovative spaces will provide students the opportunity to not only learn, but gain real-world experience,” Capilouto said, according to UKNow.
The UK Board of Trustees announced that the first-floor administrative level and second-floor auditorium will be named in Wrigley Miller’s honor, according to UKNow.
“Today was a historic day for the College of Communication and Information,” Greer said in a UK email regarding the donation. “This cash gift represents the largest single investment by a donor in the history of the college.”
