In front of a record crowd, UK men’s soccer closed out its preseason schedule with a 1-1 draw at Northern Kentucky.
After a 0-0 draw at home against Dayton on Wednesday, the Cats traveled to NKU to face the Norse in front of a crowd of 1,462, surpassing the listed capacity of 1,000.
The first goal came as UK senior striker Tyler Riggs received an in-pass from sophomore Caleb Richardson and slotted a low ball past the NKU keeper into the far post 31 minutes into the match.
Late in the match, NKU equalized as sophomore goalkeeper A.J. Fleak booted the ball into the six-yard box, where it glanced off of the head of Ian O’Reilly and into the Cats’ goal, beating UK senior keeper Jack Van Arsdale. The goal ended the Cats’ stretch of 172 minutes without allowing a goal.
UK begins the regular season portion of its schedule with a Friday matchup versus Wright State. The Cats will play the second game of a doubleheader at the UK Soccer Complex, with the 7:30 p.m. match following the Cats women’s soccer team’s game versus Eastern Kentucky, which begins at 5 p.m.
