No. 23 Kentucky softball (15-7, 0-3 SEC) defeated Lipscomb (10-15) by a score of 9-0 on Wednesday, March 13, at Draper Diamond in Nashville, Tennessee.
Five of Kentucky’s nine runs were driven in by sophomore Lauryn Borzilleri.
She kicked off scoring in the top of the second with an RBI double that scored junior Margaret Tobias and redshirt sophomore Jenna Blanton.
The Wildcats added another run later in that inning from an RBI single by fifth-year Rylea Smith that scored freshman Emory Donaldson.
Borzilleri struck again in the following inning and hit another two-run double, this time scoring Blanton and junior Hallie Mitchell to increase the lead to 5-0.
In the fifth inning, Borzilleri recorded her final RBI of the game, hitting a single that sent senior Vanessa Nesby home.
The Cats added one more run in the sixth from a double by freshman Cassie Reasner, marking her first collegiate RBI.
A two-run home run by freshman Peyton Plotts one play finished scoring for the game and led to a run rule victory, allowing the game to end one inning early.
Wildcat senior Stephanie Schoonover pitched a complete game and struck out nine batters while only allowing three hits, and the win improved her season record to 9-3.
Kentucky will return home to begin the five-game John Cropp Classic tournament beginning on Thursday, March 14, at 6 p.m. EST against South Dakota State. The game will be televised on SEC Network+.
