UK’s executive vice president bailed a student out of jail Wednesday.
Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Frank Butler posted $7,500 bond for ROTC student Joseph Ches after Ches was arrested on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment and drunken driving.
Police responded to a call from the apartments at 201 Simpson Ave. at about 12:30 a.m. on a report of shots fired, the police report said. Witnesses said Ches fired a high-powered rifle into the air and drove away, according to the police report.
Ches pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday. His license was suspended because he refused a breathalyzer test to determine his blood alcohol content.
UK spokesman Jay Blanton said he was unsure of any relationship between Butler and Ches, but Butler was not acting on behalf of UK in posting Ches’ bail.
Ches is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing Jan. 13.
