ESPN: Goodwin contacted by other recruits about playing together at UK

Archie Goodwin became UK’s first Class of 2012 commitment shortly before midnight on Tuesday when he tweeted that he was a Wildcat.

Other top recruits have already gotten in touch about the potential of being next in line.

“When I woke up this morning I had 160 text messages, 40 voicemails and I had over 200 emails,” Goodwin said in an ESPN article. “It’s crazy. I’ve got about 2,000 more followers on Twitter since Tuesday night at 11 p.m. I couldn’t get to a lot of the calls, there were just so many.”

Shooting guard Gary Harris, ranked No. 10 by ESPN and No. 25 by Rivals, and shooting guard Torian Graham, ranked No. 38 by ESPN and No. 51 by Rivals, both contacted Goodwin “congratulating him and inquiring about the possibility of playing together in college,” according to the ESPN article. The story also said top-ranked Shabazz Muhammad had talked previously about possibly playing with Goodwin, although they did not talk last night following Goodwin’s announcement.

Goodwin said he didn’t want to be the one to initiate the conversations about playing together, but that if others reached out, he would have no qualms about getting them to join him at UK. This also fits with what Goodwin told ESPN’s Dave Telep, who first broke the news of Goodwin’s commitment Tuesday night.

“Me committing will probably get the ball rolling for the rest of the class. It’s got to start somewhere,” Goodwin told Telep. (Read Telep’s story here.)
