In a just a few short weeks, the racetrack at Keeneland will be filled with horses and onlookers both young and old.

Marking its 75th anniversary this year, Keeneland has established itself as a historic tradition in Lexington throughout many generations. For college students, it is a place to have a good time with friends and enjoy beautiful weather, all while wearing your best outfit.

Dressing up in your finest threads is an unwritten rule that everyone respectfully abides by when attending the races. Keeneland fashion can be described as girls dressed in cardigan sweaters and colorful dresses, while guys are dressed in their khakis and dress shirts — after all, fashion and horse racing have always been strongly correlated; think the Kentucky Derby.

“Keeneland fashion is very traditional but very driven in the way of ‘Southern Fashion,’” said Amber Arnold, manager of the Keeneland Shop.

Arnold says the Keeneland gift shop offers a variety of merchandise, including home décor, apparel, handbags, boots and much more.

Students should also know that the Keeneland gift shop also offers merchandise that is extremely exclusive in the Lexington area.

“Keeneland is the only retailer in Lexington that carries Longchamp handbags,” Arnold said.

Along with exclusive merchandise, the gift shop is taking strides in its social media efforts for students and Lexington locals through Facebook and Twitter.
