UK Provost Kumble Subbaswamy was not elected for the 15th presidency at University of Utah Friday afternoon.

“We are disappointed for our colleague,” President Eli Capilouto said. “He would have been an excellent choice.

The University of Utah’s Board of Regents interviewed the top candidates in the country before narrowing down to the final two.

The other candidate was David W. Pershing, senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Utah.

The vote for Pershing was unanimous.
