UK Softball (23-23, 10-9 SEC) looks to continue their recent winning ways during this weekend’s three game series against the Mississippi State Bulldogs (25-19, 8-14 SEC).

Senior Brittany Cervantes enter Friday’s game one home run shy of hitting 10 or more homers during each of her four seasons at UK.

For much of the season she hadn’t found success with the long ball, but after hitting a homer in seven of her last 10 outings, the senior looks to make history against the Bulldogs pitching staff.

Nearly as hot at the plate during the past week is freshman Griffin Joiner.

Joiner entered Wednesday’s game against Ole Miss with a sub .300 batting average, but after going 4-5 performance against the Rebels, she is now batting .313 on the season.

The Bulldogs have some hot hitters as well.

Mississippi State senior Brittany Bell has a .398 average with eight home runs and 30 RBI on 45 hits, second most on the team.

The Bulldogs most effective bat is that of junior Jessica Cooley.

Cooley leads the team with 13 home runs and 35 RBI. Her 13 homers rank 20th in the NCAA and second in the SEC.

In addition to those two bats, the Bulldogs also have two other batters who are hitting over .331 on the season.

The series opens Friday at 6 p.m. EST from Starkville, Miss. Game two, which will air on ESPNU, has an opening pitch slated for 1 p.m. EST. And game three concludes the series at 2 p.m. EST on Sunday.
