Bell named SEC Pitcher of the Week

UK softball’s senior pitcher, Chanda Bell, collected her first SEC weekly award of the season, and third of her career, when she was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

The earning of the award comes after the senior helped pitch the Cats to a series victory over top-five ranked Florida this past weekend.

Friday’s 2-0 victory came courtesy of a four-hit shutout by Bell. In picking up the win, Bell also struck out eight batters while allowing only one walk.

Florida evened the series Saturday, but UK returned the favor on Sunday with Bell’s pitching once again helping the Cats win, and take the series.

During Sunday’s 5-1 victory, Bell collected a season-high 13 strikeouts. She struck out the side three different times during the game.

After her performance this weekend, Bell needs 13 more strikeouts to reach 900 for her career. She is the only pitcher in UK history to strikeout 150 or more batters each of her four seasons.
