At halftime in the swamp the UK football team trails the Florida Gators 24-0.

Among a few changes in the starting lineup right before the game, backup quarterback Morgan Newton was given the nod due to a shoulder injury by starting quarterback Maxwell Smith.

In his first start since last season, Newton is 6-20 for 49 yards and three interceptions, while UK has 128 yards rushing on 23 carries.

For Florida, quarterback Jeff Driskel 11-19 for 147 yards one touchdown and one interception. The UK defense has done a good job of containing Florida running back Mike Gillisle, who has just 43 yards rushing on eight carries.

UK kicker Craig McIntosh has missed two field goals so far, keeping UK off the scoreboard through the first half.

After winning the coin toss before the game and electing to defer, the Cats will receive the opening kickoff of the second half.
