UK Hoops tops Pepperdine in first game of California road trip

In the first game of No. 7/6 UK Hoops’ road trip to California, the Cats left the Pepperdine Waves in their wake, winning 80-62.

The win moves UK to 9-1 on the season. UK is now 42-2 when scoring 80 or more points under Matthew Mitchell.

The Cats shot 58.3 percent, a near season-high percentage from the field. Only the Miami (Oh.) game saw the Cats shoot a higher percentage (59.4). UK forced 22 turnovers while committing only 14.

California native junior forward DeNesha Stallworth led UK with 17 points in her homecoming game, scoring 13 in the second half. Three other Wildcats reached double figures, including sophomore guard Bria Goss with 16 points, senior guard A’dia Mathies with 13 points and junior forward Samarie Walker with 10 points.

Mathies’ performance moved her to No. 6 on the program’s all-time scoring list.

Game two of UK’s west coast swing takes place Friday, Dec. 21 when the Cats face UC Santa Barbara. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT.
