Following a 3-0 start to the season, No. 9 UK men’s tennis will host the Lexington Regional of the 2013 Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Kick-Off Weekend.

The Cats will welcome Michigan State, South Carolina and No. 17 Texas into the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.

The winner of the regional will automatically qualify for the 2013 ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the University of Washington

. UK will open play against Michigan State (3-1) on Friday in the first semifinal, with play getting under way at 1 p.m.

The Spartans have knocked off Wright State, Detroit and Vanderbilt so far in 2013, with their one loss coming on the road against Memphis. In the other semi-final, South Carolina (4-0) and Texas (3-0) will look to end each other’s perfect starts to the season.

The Gamecocks head to Lexington having dropped only two matches in a pair of 6-1 wins over Charlotte and Furman, while they shutout both Presbyterian and Appalachian State.

Wins over Southern Methodist University, Washington and Tulsa have earned the Longhorns their undefeated records.

Saturday sees the two winners of Friday’s semifinals play each other at 5 p.m. for a sport at the national finals, while the two losing teams will square off at 1 p.m.
