5 track athletes named All-Americans at start of outdoor season

The UK track and field teams get back in the action this weekend with multi-event and field event athletes heading to University of Cincinnati’s Oliver Nikloff Invite. The sprinters and hurdlers will mostly be heading to UT’s Texas Relays and the distance runners will be at Stanford.
The Cats ended a strong indoor season with five members of the team being named First Team All-Americans.
The No. 20 women’s team had four competitors earn honors: senior Cally Macumber, junior Chelsea Oswald, junior Allison Peare and freshman Morganne Phillips. Senior sprinter and hurdler Keith Hayes also earned the honor.
Keith Hayes finished seventh nationally in the men’s 60m hurdles with a time of 7.74 seconds.
Macumber went on to win the bronze medal in the 3,000 meters, while Oswald took ninth in the event.
Oswald, Phillips, Peare and Macumber placed fifth in the women’s distance medley relay.
With the outdoor season fully underway, the Cats started off strong in their first outdoor meet of the season at the USF Bulls Invitational.
Sophomore distance runner Keffri Neal won the 1,500 meters with a personal-record time of 3:51.60. While junior teammate Adam Kahleifeh also posted a PR time of 3:51.94 to finish in second-position.
Junior Kayla Parker won the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 13.51 seconds.
The Texas Relays, the second outdoor event the Cats will compete in, gets started Wednesday night.
The Oliver Nikloff Invite and Stanford Invitational kicks off Friday night with times to be announced.
