A UK student was taken to UK Chandler Hospital on Sunday after falling from a cliff in Garrard County, according to The Lexington Herald-Leader.

John Davis, 22, was listed in critical condition Monday, the Herald-Leader said.

Davis fell about 60 feet from the cliff when he left the trail he had been hiking with a friend at the Tom Dorman State Nature Preserve.

“If they had stayed on the trail, they would have been fine,” Davis King, Jessamine County Fire District board member, said to the Herald-Leader. “I guess they were just trying to challenge themselves.”

According to the Herald-Leader, Jessamine and Garrard County volunteer firefighters rushed to the scene when the accident was reported by Davis’ uninjured friend, identified as Garrett, around 4:15 p.m.
