Don’t think you’ll make it to New York to see a Broadway show this summer? UK Opera Theatre has you covered.

From Thursday, June 11 through to Saturday, June 13, UK Opera Theatre presents, for the second weekend in a row, the musical revue “It’s A Grand Night For Singing!” at the Singletary Center for the Arts.

The shows promise to be full to bursting with singing and dancing, and will include music from recent Broadway hits such as “Chicago,” “Matilda,” and “Shrek.”

“Grand Night” has long been part of Lexington’s summer music scene. Executive producer and music director Everett McCorvey started the show in 1992, and it quickly grew from a one-night-only event into a weekend-long event, until in recent years it became a two-weekend event.

This year the annual town and gown revue celebrates its 21st year with as much gusto as ever; with a cast of 50 adults and 13 children, accompanied by an orchestra of 23 musicians.

All of the performers are locally sourced from UK, Lexington and the surrounding community.

With a cast of this magnitude, the task of pleasing an audience with a performance of their favorite songs and Broadway hits seems daunting, but Patrick Joel Martin of UK Opera Theatre doubts the the shows will disappoint.

“Under the direction of Peggy Stamps and choreography by Lyndy Franklin Smith and Jeromy Smith, the cast has put together a fun evening of Broadway, cinema and Top 40 hits,” Martin said.

When is the next time you’ll be able to see a live performance of your favorite Broadway and Top 40 hits right here in Lexington, and with a student discount?

Tickets for “It’s A Grand Night For Singing!” are available at www.scfatickets.com, via phone at 859-257-4929, and in-person at the Singletary Center box office, with tickets priced at $45 for adults, $40 for seniors, UK faculty and staff, and $15 for students (not including a processing fee).

Showtime for Thursday, Friday and Saturday is set for 7:30 p.m.
