Former UK tennis player to play in U.S. Open qualifier

Former University of Kentucky men’s tennis player Jesse Witten has earned a place in the U.S. Open Singles Qualifying Tournament. The 32-year-old won the U.S. Open National Playoffs, securing his spot in the qualifier.

Witten defeated top seed Matija Pecotic in the U.S Open national playoffs to earn a wild card spot in the U.S. Open qualifier. He will face No. 18 seed, Australian John-Patrick Smith in the first round.

The U.S. Open Singles Qualifying Tournament will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y, the same venue that the U.S. open will be held. The qualifier starts on Aug. 26 and ends Aug. 28.
