A lot of people like to substitute M&M’s into their chocolate chip cookie dough to mix things up. Those people are doing it all wrong. In the days before pre-made cookie dough, there were hundreds of ways to make cookies. This is the best recipe for M&M cookies, and while it might take a little more effort than standard chocolate chip cookie dough, it is well worth it for these buttery cookies.

You need to use the shortening, butter is no substitute. In recipe we trust.

Ingredients:

1 c. shortening (Crisco)

1 c. brown sugar

1/2 c. sugar

2 tsp. vanilla

2 eggs

2 1/2 c. flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. salt

1 small package of M&M’s

Instructions:

Cream together the shortening and sugars.

Add vanilla and eggs. Mix until creamy.

In another bowl, mix together flour, salt and baking soda.

Add to creamy sugar mix in parts.

Once smooth, add M&M’s.

I usually chill the dough for an hour or so. That way the cookies hold their shape when you bake them, but it is totally optional.

Bake at 350 degrees for 10 – 12 minutes.

Leave them for Santa or eat them yourself.
