Two people were shot near State Street early Saturday morning and transported to UK Chandler Hospital with serious/life threatening injuries.

UK spokeswoman Kathy Johnson said of the victims UK was aware of, none were students.

UK Police sent out a UK Alert informing students of shots fired near the 200 block of State Street at about 3:15 a.m. Saturday.

Lexington Police responded to reports of shots fired on University Avenue at 3:05 a.m. Police found the two victims, who were shot while in a car. Some property was taken from the car, so a robbery charge was included with the police report, said Sgt. Christopher Morrow with Lexington Police.

Both UK and Lexington Police responded to the scene. The investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Morrow said police are not sure what motivated the shooting.

The police will continue to update media outlets with any new information, Morrow said.
