UK Cheerleading wins 21st National Championship

UK Cheerleading continued its dominance over the sport Sunday night by winning it’s nation-leading 21st National Championship at the HP Fieldhouse on the campus of ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.

The Cats beat out Central Florida, who finished second, and Alabama, third, in the 2016 edition of the contest. This championship makes the third in five years for the program and fourth in this decade alone.

“I am extremely proud of this team,” UK head coach Jomo Thompson said. “They put in a lot of hard work all year to win this championship. It was an intense competition, and I am thrilled that we were able to get the win.”

The team will be honored for their accomplishment in Rupp Arena on Saturday afternoon during UK men’s basketball game against Vanderbilt at 4 p.m. ET.
