UK women’s soccer fell to #23 South Florida in its home opener 3-2 after grabbing an early 2-0 lead.

Gina Crosetti kicked off the scoring for the Cats in the 11th minute for her first goal of the season.

UK added another goal in the 25th minute when freshman, Marissa Bosco beat USF’s last defender and finished the ball in the back of the net. The goal was Bosco’s first ever collegiate goal.

South Florida responded quickly after the goal to bring the score to 2-1 when forward Evelyne Viens ripped one from the top of the box to beat UK keeper Evangeline Soucie.

Eight minutes into the second half, USF defender, Leticia Skeete took a shot from inside the box and put it past Soucie to tie the game at 2.

The Bulls continued their momentum against the Cats when Jordan Tuttle got possession, took on multiple defenders and blasted a powerful shot that just missed Kentucky’s defender and goalie to take the lead.

One possession after another, the Bulls were dominant in the second half. Kentucky needed to be stronger on defense regarding both possession and allowing shots on goal and head coach Jon Lipsitz was very adamant about his team’s lack of defense.

“We made some changes trying to get better defensively and I thought we were absolutely horrendous defensively today. We have to work on being better defensively, individually and collectively, because you can’t keep your goalkeeper out to dry like that,” said head coach Jon Lipsitz.

The Bulls domination in the second half proved that it was all they needed to spoil the Cats home opener.
