Cats fall out west to Pepperdine

UK women’s soccer moved to 0-1-1 in the early going with a 3-0 loss to the Pepperdine Waves Sunday out in Malibu, CA.

After a draw on Friday night against Long Beach State, the Cats were looking to get in the win column for the first time in 2016, but could not convert.

A cough-up from the Cats’ backline allowed the Waves to get on the board first. Pepperdine carried that 1-0 lead into halftime, but UK came out of the locker room possessing the ball much better.

The Cats, however, were unable to break through, and the Waves took advantage scoring two more goals in the second half, the first of which off a counter from a UK turnover.

Tanya Samarzich and Lauren Nemeroff led the way with two shots a piece and goalkeeper Evangeline Soucie made three saves in the loss.

UK will be looking to pick up its first victory of 2016 in the home opener Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against South Florida.
