New York college students kidnapped, tortured

In December of 2015, two male students from the University of Rochester were lured to an off-campus house by a woman pretending to flirt with one of the men on Facebook. When they got there, however, they were ambushed by a group of men who tortured and sexually abused them.

The victims were held in a bathroom for 40 hours while the attackers cut them with knives and a chainsaw, shot one in his legs, and doused them in flammable liquids and threatened to set them on fire. One of the men said that they stole thousands of dollars from his bank accounts after forcing him to tell them his passwords. The men were eventually rescued by a police SWAT team after their roommates reported them missing.

The victims were mistaken for participants of a robbery involving a drug dealer in the area, and the attack was an act of retribution.

Four of the attackers were sentenced in court on Wednesday. Lydell Strickland, who organized the abduction, was sentenced to 155 years to life in prison for kidnapping, assault, gang assault, sexual abuse, and several other charges.

Another assailant was convicted to 15 years in prison. Two women, who were in the house at the time but did not participate in the torture, were sentenced to seven years each for kidnapping and weapons charges.
