French major cut at EKU, journalism stays

Madison Rexroat

The Eastern Kentucky Board of Regents announced Monday that French and comparative humanities degrees would no longer be offered at EKU.

Current French majors will receive their degrees and French classes will still be taught, but future students won’t be able to major or minor in the subject.

Other programs like journalism, geography and horticulture were also under consideration for suspension, but they will instead be “redesigned” to better appeal to job markets.

The program cuts were made to reduce a $13 million shortfall that EKU faces.
