The Herald Leader reported Tuesday that housing rates at UK will increase by 3.5 percent beginning in fall 2017.

The Board of Trustees, which usually approves annual rates in June, decided earlier than normal because UK housing is owned by a private developer, so rate increases are written into a contract.

For dorms built in 2005, rates will go up 1.8 percent. Rates for dorms built since then will go up 3.5 percent. Greek housing will also increase by 3.5 percent.

Dining rates, which are privately contracted to Aramark, will go up between 3.2 percent and 4.8 percent depending on which meal plan a student has. All students living in residence halls must have a meal plan.
