Research universities hopeful for connectivity improvements under Trump

President-elect Donald Trump made it quite clear during his campaign that infrastructure would be a big priority for him as president. Most believe that Trump will improve roads, bridges and airports, but some research universities hope that these improvements will also include high-speed internet.

Internet2, in particular, is what researchers want to see improved. Internet2 is a high-speed and high-volume link between scientists at over 300 universities, and it is dedicated to research purposes.

Internet2 is widely accepted at these universities, but researchers hope to expand its quality to include international partners so a worldwide research network can be created.

Trump’s infrastructure plan is unlikely to include Internet without persuasion, but university leaders fully intend to speak with the President-elect about this critical aspect of research.
