U.S. colleges react to travel ban

Just over a week since President Trump’s earth-trembling travel ban last Friday, travelers, protesters, politicians and colleges continue to take action.

With over 17,000 students from the affected nations enrolled at American universities, the travel ban threatens a significant portion of a college’s income – approximately $556 million.

Schools in the U.S. recommend that any international students, especially those from the seven named countries, should remain in the country until they finish their program. Some colleges plan to work with students who were unable to return due to the sudden ban.

Over one million international students attended U.S. schools last year, spending more than $35 billion. A fear that many universities have is that the travel ban will dissuade any future international students from studying abroad, even from other countries.
