Millennials less mobile than previous generations

Madison Rexroat

Compared to 25 to 35 year olds nearly 20 years ago in Generation X, fewer millennials are as mobile when it comes to job placement and buying a home.

In 2000, 26 percent of those classified as Generation X had moved in the past year. In 2016, however, only 20 percent of people in the same age range had moved.

The change, which is odd considering that most millennials are unmarried and don’t have children, concerns economists because moving opens up more job opportunities for potential seekers.

Home ownership among millennials is also lower than it was for Gen X, possibly due to higher prices and restrictive credit rates.
