New bill proposed to balance college ideologies

A new bill proposed in Iowa would require state-funded colleges to hire an equal or almost equal number of Democrats and Republicans as professors. The bill comes after much debate over whether liberal bias in colleges influences students’ own beliefs.

The bill, which would only apply to three colleges in Iowa, is not expected to pass, but it does bring to light the need for a balancing solution. 

While some agree that campus conservatives have begun to face discrimination, others argue that college students should be able to think for themselves and monitoring political ideologies is not the way to achieve balance.
