Kroger Field, formerly known as Commonwealth Stadium, is home to many fun activities. Almost every Saturday in the fall, you can find wildcat fans cheering on the football team to victory, The Paddock typically holds formal events and meetings and on Thursday nights, Kroger Field does yoga.

Last night, Kroger Field had its first Yoga on Kroger Field event. All participants needed was a pair of athletic shoes and a valid UK student or employee ID. A yoga mat or towel and a water bottle were recommended.

This event was hosted by UK Campus Recreation and Wellness. They encourage health and fitness for all students on campus

Yoga is known for stress and anxiety reduction, as well as improved physical fitness, and can help enhance a person’s overall mood.

Kyra Dickie, the instructor who lead the practice at Kroger Field, is a yoga instructor at the Johnson Center. She started teaching group fitness five years ago as a Zumba and cycling instructor.

She was hesitant at first about becoming a yoga instructor, but decided to do it because she said believes that “you don’t do yoga for the physical benefits at all, it’s 100 percent mental … it’s a daily thing to feel better about yourself and what’s happening in your life.”

Kyra teaches classes regularly at the Johnson Center, so head on in to see what her practices are all about. Schedules of the JC’s group fitness classes can be found at the JC or on their website.

Stop in for a yoga class anytime of the week, and keep an eye out for the next time you can swap footballs and shoulder pads for yoga mats and a vinyasa flow. Namaste.
