After missing out on the No. 1 prospect of the 2018 class on Friday, John Calipari and the UK men’s basketball team picked up a five-star player on Saturday evening as shooting guard Keldon Johnson verbally committed to the Cats.

Johnson is a 6-6 guard from Virginia, and is the 14th best player and second best shooting guard in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. Johnson was deciding between UK, Maryland, N.C. State and Texas.

Johnson took his official visit to UK on Sept. 15, just four days after being visited by Calipari.

Johnson is the second player to join UK’s 2018 class after Immanuel Quickley committed to UK on Sept. 22. Johnson averaged 20.6 points per game for Boo Williams AAU team during the 2017 Nike EYBL. He shot 51 percent from the floor in 16 games.
