The No. 25 ranked Kentucky Wildcats women’s team looked to extend their five-match win streak into conference play as they took on Arkansas inside the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
Doubles play did not get off to the best start for the Cats, as No. 50 Akvile Parazinskaite and Justina Mikulskyte would go down 6-2 against Martina Zerulo and Tatum Rice.
Arkansas would then go on to claim the doubles point as Jackie Carr and Laura Rijkers beat the team of Anastasia Tkachenko and Alexis Merrill 6-2. The Cats were rather slow out of the gates against the Razorbacks.
UK’s Tiphanie Fiquet and Lesedi Jacobs would remain undefeated in doubles play, however. The pairing was closing in on victory at the time of the finish, as they were ahead 5-3.
Action would pick up for the Cats in singles action, as Mikulskyte made quick work of #81 Tatum Rice 6-0, 6-2.
Sophomore Lesedi Jacobs would follow suit, defeating Carr 6-1, 6-3, putting the Cats ahead 2-1.
UK’s lead would extend to 3-1, thanks to Fiquet winning a hard-fought battle against Rijkers, 7-5, 6-4.
Fiquet remains undefeated, improving to 10-0 in singles play this year.
Parazinskaite would then secure a contest victory for the Cats, as she overcame and outlasted Martina Zerulo 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Diana Tkachenko also claimed victory right at the conclusion of the night as she bested Lauren Alter 6-3, 6-2, leading to the Cats walking away victorious, 5-1. Tkachenko, like Fiquet, remains undefeated in singles play.
Some great singles action propelled UK to victory against Arkansas on Friday afternoon. The Cats extend their win-streak to six and are now 11-1 on the year.
UK will have a double-header on Sunday against in-conference foe Missouri at 11 p.m., and Lipscomb at 4 p.m.. Both matches will be inside the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
