University Health Pharmacy, located in the first-floor lobby of the University Health Service Building, will permanently close on Dec. 19, according to a press release sent to the Kentucky Kernel on Sept. 9.
University of Kentucky’s Retail Pharmacies’ research found that 75% of patients who saw providers near the current location chose to fill their prescriptions at other pharmacies, the release said.
“Closing University Health Pharmacy will allow UK Retail Pharmacies to reallocate resources more effectively and expand services where they are most needed,” the press release said.
Plans are underway to open a new UK Retail Pharmacy in Richmond, Kentucky.
All staff currently working at University Health Service Pharmacy will be offered opportunities within UK Pharmacy Services at one of the seven Lexington pharmacies or the planned Richmond location.
Patients who currently use University Health Pharmacy are encouraged to transfer their prescriptions to another UK Retail Pharmacy location.
