The UK women’s soccer team bounced back after a loss to San Diego State last week with a 3-0 win over the UNC Greensboro Spartans Friday night.

The Cats started strong, keeping possession in the backfield, something head coach Jon Lipsitz said the team struggled with in last weeks game.

“We spent a lot of time working on possession, doing a better job at keeping the ball,” Lipsitz said. “We saw a huge amount of growth potential there.”

Just seven minutes into the game, the crowd could see these adjustments being made as Cats forward Jade Klump got her first goal of the season.

Klump was assisted by midfielder Courtney Raetzman, who later went on to score the Cats second goal of the game.

Raetzman said she saw advancement in the team’s performance, keeping possession and attacking significantly more.

“After our last Sunday game, we really needed something to get us up again and I think the hard work and training led to that,” Raetzman said.

Raetzman, although small, plays tougher and more aggressive than her opponents. She was a standout in this game scoring one and having two assists. Raetzman took on three defenders and poked it forward to wide open Zoe Swift for the Cats third and final goal of the game.

Swift lived up to her last name with an unmatched speed and agility throughout the game. Suffering from an elbow injury following last week’s game against San Diego State, she did not let the inconvenience slow her down.

“With all the resources we have here, I trusted my athletic chairs and they got me back to full health and ready to play today,” Swift said.

The Cats will face the Toledo Rockets at home at 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 30th. Coach Lipsitz is optimistic about the team’s performance and hopes to see the Cats hard work continue.

“I like the growth that I’ve seen this week and we just need to continue to get better every day.”
