With the Cats Den’s new location in Blazer Hall comes a new name: the Cats Den Underground.

The Cats Den temporarily relocated this summer while the new Student Center is being constructed.

Despite being in the basement of Blazer, students should find the Cats Den similar to how it was when they left for summer. With billiards tables, ping-pong tables, TVs, an Xbox 360, a PlayStation, a Wii and a stack bar, Cats Den Underground workers hope to keep their reputation as a popular campus hang-out.

The new space will allow for the same great programming that the Cats Den offered in the Student Center,” said Dustin Adams, the assistant director of UK’s Student Center.

“It is a great space for students to use during the day to play ping pong, pool, study or just hang out and watch television. In the evenings, students can attend a variety of events and programs like Comedy Caravan, concerts, card game tournaments, trivia nights and poetry slams.”

But the Cats Den won’t be exactly the same. New events like a Hispanic food event and a lip sync battle could put a fresh spin on the Den’s programming.

“It has the potential to be one of our more entertaining events of the semester,” Adams said of the lip sync battle.

Promoting these events was the Cats Den’s biggest obstacle. The staff uses Snapchat, along with other social media sites, to let students know what they have to offer. The Cats Den’s website has a full calendar for the semester.

“We have used social media, printed materials and other university outlets in the past,” Adams said. “We are always looking for new ways to market what’s going on in the Cats Den.”

In addition to the programs and events, the Cats Den Underground allows registered student clubs and organizations to host programming open to the campus community. To assist in the programming, student clubs and organizations can also apply for a $250 subsidy that can be used for catering, marketing materials, technical fees or supplies.
