Walk-on senior guards Tod Lanter and Sam Malone have been suspended from the UK basketball team for a violation of team rules, UK basketball spokesman Eric Lindsey confirmed to the Kernel.

Lanter and Malone were absent from the bench during the Cats’ matchup with Providence on Sunday.

Malone, from Scituate, Mass., is a three-time All-SEC Academic Team member and has appeared in two games this season off of the bench.

Lanter, a graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, has also appeared in two games this season off the bench.

Both players saw action during the final minutes of wins against Kansas and Montana State.

UK head coach John Calipari addressed the incident during his post-game press conference Sunday.

“They’re fine. They’re still with the team,” Calipari said.

Neither Lindsey nor Calipari added any detail on the specifics on the violations. Both were on the bench during UK’s win against UT Arlington Tuesday.
