UK-Louisville NCAA regional championship game delayed due to lightning

UK and Louisville’s regional championship game has been delayed due to lightning in the area of Jim Patterson Stadium with an expected start time of 8:15 p.m.

Louisville officials announced at 7 p.m. that a “realistic expectation” is for the game to start around 8:30 p.m. Louisville announced to fans at 5:35 p.m. that the game will not start until “7 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. at the earliest.”

The game was originally slated to begin at about 4:20 p.m., but lightning was spotted near the ballpark at about 4:10 p.m., and the stands were cleared of fans.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are around the Louisville area according to The Weather Channel radar.

The Cats have already played one game on Sunday, a 8-6 victory over Kansas that eliminated the Jayhawks.
