A.J. Legree and Jalen Whitlow shared a room together at UK. Both are leaving the football program.

Legree’s decision was announced Wednesday by head coach Mark Stoops at spring practice.

“He’s wrapped it up. He’s gonna quit and go play somewhere else,” Stoops said.

Whitlow announced April 16 that he would leave. Stoops and offensive coordinator Neal Brown said that they asked Whitlow to make a position change from quarterback to wide receiver.

Whitlow wasn’t willing to make that change.

The wide receiver position has already thinned this spring because of injuries, including sophomore Jeff Badet’s leg injury. Badet broke his fibula in practice on Monday.

Legree totaled 19 catches and 210 yards in his two seasons at UK. He played in all 24 games in the past two years and made two starts in 2013.

Legree was not at open practice on Wednesday.

“We wish him the best of luck,” Stoops said. “We’ll be fine. I want the guys that want to be here.”
