April 15, 2014
STAFF REPORT
The NCAA announced Tuesday that student-athletes can receive an unlimited amount of meals and snacks as a part of their athletic scholarships.
According to the NCAA’s website, the Division I Board of Directors will meet April 24 to discuss the changes. If they approve, the rules will take effect on Aug. 1.
The NCAA also cut down the penalty for a first positive drug test “during championships,” added a rule requiring athletes to rest at least three hours between practices in the preseason and created a rule requiring strength and conditioning coaches to be nationally certified.
UK head coach John Calipari commented on the story through Twitter:
I’m happy this appears to be going through. I wonder if they will move on some of my other suggestions. http://t.co/P1Q9yPKGIG
