Palli: Seek out and vote for your voice

Student Government will hold elections for the President, Vice President and 42 of 46 seats of the Senate on Wednesday and Thursday.

As I wrote at the beginning of this year, prior to the election for the four freshman senate seats, civic engagement from our student body is integral to ensuring that your voices are heard and are represented as faithfully as possible.

In less than a week more than 70 individuals will be campaigning across our campus in an attempt to represent each of us in the Student Government Senate, on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, on the Board of Trustees and a variety of other important bodies.

By taking the time to read the candidates’ platforms and voting in a conscientious way, you can ensure that you are represented effectively in all of these bodies. The students who are elected will help determine university policy over the next year and affect the future of this institution for years to come.

Following the election, Student Government’s executive team and the Senate will have about two months to transition the newly elected members into their new roles. I wish the best of luck to all of the candidates, and look forward to working with all those that are elected to represent our student body next year.

We all have the responsibility to vote for a candidate that we believe will speak with our voice in mind. Instead of avoiding those that are campaigning, take the time to hear them out and contribute to the discussion that will occur across campus.

If you visit our website, you can find information regarding every candidate’s platforms, and on Wednesday and Thursday you can find the link to the poll as well.
