Man injured after being struck by car near Newtown Crossing

A man was taken to the hospital after being struck by the side mirror of a van while walking across South Broadway Road near Newtown Crossing on Saturday night, said Lt. Eddie Hart of the Lexington Police Department.

A witness reported to police that a group of students were walking across the road when the light changed, Hart said.

The man, who appeared to be between the ages of 18 and 22, had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as “just a precaution,” Hart said.

“He didn’t even want to go to the hospital, he was trying to get up and leave,” Hart said. “We convinced him to go and get checked out since he had been hit by a motor vehicle.”

The driver of the van will most likely not face charges, Hart said, and it does not appear that alcohol was a factor for the driver.

It is not yet clear whether or not the man who was hit had been intoxicated, Hart said.
