Panel to discuss race, gender

UK’s gender and women’s studies department will host “From Emmett Till to Trayvon Martin: Race and Cultural Masculinities” on Tuesday.

The event will include a showing of the movie “The Murder of Emmett Till,” followed by a panel discussion of the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

The movie highlights the story of a young black man, Emmett Till, who was murdered in 1955.

Martin, a black teenager, was shot last year while walking home by George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in court.

The event will take place in the W. T. Young Library auditorium at 6:30 p.m.
