Soccer to play New Mexico

UK men’s soccer will finish off the regular season against the University of New Mexico at 5 p.m. Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Cats (6-8-3, 3-3-2 C-USA) are coming off a 2-2 tie against Wright State University.

The Lobos (10-4-2, 5-1-1 C-USA) are currently ranked eighth in the nation in Division I and lead Conference USA. They are coming off a pair of wins against the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Old Dominion University.

New Mexico’s lone Conference USA loss came at the hands of the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., who the Cats played to a draw on Oct. 13 at home.

The Lobos are led by head coach Jeremy Fishbein and freshman midfielder Niko Hansen.

Hansen has recorded seven goals this season.

New Mexico senior goalkeeper Michael Lisch has allowed only 14 goals in 16 games this season and recorded six shutouts.

The Cats will play New Mexico on their senior night and will rely on senior forward Tyler Riggs and junior forward Justin Laird.

Riggs has recorded five goals in the past three matches, while Laird has led the team in assists with six.

The Cats have not lost since Oct. 26.

Two wins and one tie later, the Cats are looking to a matchup with New Mexico and the Conference USA Tournament scheduled for Nov. 13 in Charlotte, N.C.
