The Student Activities Board is hosting the first “CATS #1 Fan Competition” this month to discover the most spirited wildcat.

Students can submit a video depicting why they are UK’s No. 1 fan for a chance to win up to $350 worth of UK gear, said SAB Director Aleigh Oney in an email to the Kernel.

Oney said the event was created to SAB wants to “create a tradition.”

“As an SEC school, we were lacking … spirit going into homecoming week,” Oney said.

SAB wants spirit from students not only on camera, but also around campus to demonstrate leadership and passion.

“We want students who are not only excited about the football game at the culmination of homecoming week,” Oney said. “We want students who are excited about the love they share with this university.”

As the Cats prepare to play Alabama State for UK’s homecoming game, some players said the UK fans’ spirit encourages them.

“The crowd and fans help out tremendously,” redshirt sophomore Rodney Cox said. “Just to know we have that much support and love is amazing.”

Safety redshirt freshman Cody Lewis said fans help motivate and give the team energy.

“I think UK is a very high-spirited school when we want to be … if the fans stay in the game,” Lewis said.

The competition is open to all full-time UK students. Entries must be emailed to [email protected] by Oct. 22 at 12 p.m. A winner will be announced by Oct. 26.

Contestants are allowed assistance in the production of the video, but only one student may appear in each video.

“The videos must be respectful, nothing crude and absolutely no full nudity will be tolerated,” Oney said.

The videos are also limited to two minutes and those that go over will be disqualified.

Videos must be labeled and titled “UK’s #1 Fan” and must include the student’s name, email address, phone number, hometown, as well as their Twitter handle, if applicable.

The videos should show the student’s enthusiasm for UK in an original way, Oney said.

It will be shown during the homecoming pep rally on Oct. 28.
