Macumber wins second race of year at Cowboy Jamboree

Senior Cally Macumber won her second consecutive race as the UK cross-country men’s and women’s teams were in action as the Cats participated in the annual Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.

Oklahoma State University hosted the annual event, with almost 200 Division 1 runners and over 15 Division 1 teams participating. The event featured a 5,000-meter run for the women and an 8,000-meter run for the men.

Macumber won her race with a time of 17:22.26. Saturday’s race is the second race in a row that Macumber has led the Cats to a first place finish, following her first-place finish with a time of 16:32.11 at the Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational.

Senior Allison Peare finished in eighth for the Cats with a time of 18:12.24, followed by senior Anna Bostrom, who finished in 12th, clocking in at 18:24.00. Overall, the UK women’s team finished second with a total of 69 points behind Oklahoma State, who finished first with 51 points total. No. 2 University of Northern Arizona finished in third, one point behind the Cats.

Seniors Matt Hillenbrand and Adam Kahleifeh helped lead the UK men’s team to a fifth-place finish with a total of 131 points. Hillenbrand was the Cats top runner, finishing in 13th place with a time of 25:04.52. Kahleifeh clocked in a time of 25:07.04 with a 15th place finish. No. 1 Oklahoma State won the event with 29 points.

The UK cross country teams will be racing in back-to-back weeks for the first time this season on Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic.
