To keep up with the revitalization of campus, UK began accepting bids from companies on Thursday to operate its dining services.

Though the decision to privatize has not yet been decided, UK released the request for proposals, outlining the next step in considering privatization of UK Dining Services.

“Last fall, we conducted a series of open forums to see what (the community) thought was important,” Purchasing Director Bill Harris said. “The RFP reflects that.”

Specifically, the four most important parts of the RFP are the protection of the current Dining Services employees, the continuation of sustainability efforts, understanding the importance of local producers — like the Kentucky Proud efforts — and understanding the university’s land grant mission and its importance to the academic mission, he said.

Now that the RFP has been released, UK will hold another community forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 in the W.T. Young Library auditorium, according to a press release.

Harris said the forum seeks community reflection and discussion of the RFP.
