UK senior Ben Stow has qualified for the The Open Championship winning a 36-hole local qualifier at Gullane Golf Club in East Lothian, Scotland.

Stow stormed to the front of the pack with a 3-under-par second round to take the title with a 2-under-par final score.

After sitting out the fall semester due to transfer restrictions, Stow competed in all eight of the Cats’ spring tournaments and turned in one top-10 and four top-20 finishes in his first season at UK.

Stow’s best finish came at the Schenkel Invitational, where he tied for ninth at 1-under-par and led the team to a sixth-place finish.

The Open will take place at Muirfield Golf Club in East Lothian, Scotland on July 18-21.

Muirfield has played host to The Open 15 times beginning in 1892, one year after the course opened its doors.

The Salisbury, England, native is the member of the UK golf team to qualify for the tournament while still enrolled at UK.
