Earlier this summer, in an interview with the Kernel, Jodie Meeks expressed interest in returning to the Los Angeles Lakers for another season.

“I loved it this year playing in L.A. and I loved the city,” Meeks said. “My teammates were very encouraging and we had a lot of good veteran leadership. I like playing under Coach D’Antoni as well.”

Less than a month later, the Lakers picked up the team option for the 2013-14 season in the shooting guard’s contract.

Meeks, who has been in Lexington taking summer classes, will be paid $1.5 million for the upcoming season.

The 6-foot-4, Norcross, Ga., native averaged 7.9 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 2012-13, while shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 35.7 percent from 3-point range and 89.6 percent from the free throw line.
