Calipari adds son of UK track coach as walk-on

UK head coach John Calipari has added a ninth freshman to his 2013-14 roster.

EJ Floreal will be a walk-on player for the Cats, according to Floreal’s Twitter page, @BouncyE_24.

Floreal is the son of UK track and field head coach Edrick Floreal.

Before moving to Lexington in 2012 when his father joined UK, Floreal attended Palo Alto (Calif.) High School.

In addition to playing for the basketball team, Floreal also competed in track at Palo Alto and broke the school record for both the 100-meter (10.52 seconds) and the 2oo-meter (21.16 seconds) dash.

On the court, Floreal averaged 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and three assists per game in his final season with the Vikings.

Upon moving to Lexington, Floreal transfered to Dunbar High School and played on the Bulldogs’ basketball roster in 2012-13.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound forward averaged 11.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game for Dunbar according to MaxPreps.
